Born in Los Angeles, California, Devin Crane began painting and drawing at the age of 4. Devin is currently the Senior Art Director and Character Designer for Warner Brother’s Feature Animation’s upcoming film Smallfoot. He was previously an Art Director for Paramount Pictures as well as Character Designer for DreamWorks Animation, Walt Disney Feature Animation and Sony Pictures for the past 20 years. Devin began his career designing theme parks for Walt Disney Imagineering at the age of 17, where legendary Disney Art Director John Hench mentored him. Devin was the youngest designer ever to contribute concepts for a major theme park attraction, focusing his talents on the Winnie the Pooh Honey Hunt attraction for Tokyo Disneyland. Afterwards, he attended college at the prestigious Cal Arts. During his studies, Devin was selected to animate on Brad Birds’ classic animated feature The Iron Giant. Soon after, Devin contributed animation to Walt Disney Feature Animation’s The Tigger Move and designs for Brother Bear. After Disney, he spent 14 years at DreamWorks Animation where he served as a lead character designer and story artist on such Oscar nominated films as, Shrek 2, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Home amongst many others. Devin has also worked as concept designer for several live action and television projects over the years.
Devin previously illustrated the New York Times Bestselling, Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens as well as the acclaimed, Yoda Gets a Buddy for Simon and Schuster.
Aside from animation and illustrating children’s books, Devin has also had a successful Fine Art career and his original art has been collected and shown worldwide. He had the honor of exhibiting paintings in The Principality of Monaco as well as the Prestigious Art Auction by Maitre Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr in Paris, France. Devin was the Official 2010 & 2011 poster artist for the Cannes/Mougins Senior Golf Tournament. Devin has established an enormous following worldwide among socialites, art collectors, and jetsetters alike including; Cee Lo Green (Grammy Winning Superstar), Phillip Press (Celebrity Fine Jeweler Beverly Hills), Erik Schrody Everlast (Grammy Award Winning Artist House of Pain), Eva Filiot and Habib Beye (Socialite and French Cup Soccer Player), top executives from Hermès and L’Oreal Paris as well as Frédéric Dubois, Pierre Cornette (Major French Auctioneer), Marty Sklar (Former President of Walt Disney Imagineering).
